Oak Park Falcons Adding 14U Level Full-Time Travel Team

Starting this August, the Oak Park Falcons will be adding a full-time travel team at the 14U level. This will be in addition to the regular, part-time Falcons team at 14U. We know a number of players are interested in playing full-time, year-round travel softball next year, and we encourage your daughter to try out for this new Falcons team if she is in that group. Mike Kohlenberger will be the head coach of this new 14U team. Please note that there will be no changes at lower age levels, where the Falcons will remain a part-time program.

Tryouts will be held next Saturday and Sunday at the Concordia University Softball Field at the following times:
Saturday (7/30/16) from 10am to 12pm ** Pitchers and Catchers report at 9am and plan to stay until 12pm **
Sunday (7/31/16) from 2pm to 4pm

Please use the following link to REGISTER for tryouts by Thursday (7/28/16):

The philosophy behind the full-time team is educational and we are NOT viewing this as a “college exposure” team. Players will learn to be better at all aspects of the game and to be better prepared for next steps on High School teams.

This new team will be a year-round travel team and will include the following:
· Playing a Fall season as a team
· Entering Fall/Winter tournaments
· Practicing throughout the Fall/Winter one or two times a week
· Increased opportunities for lessons
· Playing 11-12 tournaments throughout the full year
· Eligible players are required to participate in the 14U OPYBS house league
· Increased commitment: joining a full-time travel team means that this is your primary sport/activity; reasonable accommodations will be made for other activities in school/life, but players will be asked in advance to commit to the Falcons team as their primary activity for the year
· Cost per player is currently estimated at $1,000-$1,200; this is significantly more expensive than a traditional Falcons team because we are playing and practicing throughout the year; fees include practice space/time, team equipment, uniforms and tournament entries

One very important note: this new team is an ADDITION to the Falcons program and it will not replace a traditional part-time 14U Falcons team in 2016. We believe there are enough interested players to form two 14U teams for next year and are planning to offer one of them as a full-time team. A full-time option is obviously NOT a good fit for all players and the part-time Falcons team is not intended to be a lesser team. It is entirely possible that some of our best players will choose to continue to play part-time due to other commitments (other sports, theater, music, etc.). The traditional Falcons program is made for this type of player, and that will continue. That being said, if a player is interested in playing full-time, and tries out for but does not make the full-time team, they are still welcome to try-out for the traditional 14U Falcons team in April.

We certainly hope that all of our current players who retain age eligibility choose to try out again and rejoin the Falcons in 2016-2017 in one form or another.
