Welcome to OPYBS Girls T-Ball page!

Girls born in 2009 (if they are in second grade), 2010, 2011, and 2012 (if currently enrolled in Kindergarten) are eligible for T-ball in 2018.

Please Note: T-Ball is an introduction to softball for girls in Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Our 9U league offers further focus on development for older girls. OPYBS encourages 2nd graders with 2009 birthdays to consider registering for 9U rather than tee ball, especially if your child has played tee ball in the past. To align with national organizations OPYBS softball age cut-offs are on a calendar basis and not a school year basis. For 2018, 9U will be open to 2008 and 2009 birthdays while 10U is open to 2007 and 2008 birthdays. If fall and early winter birthdays do not move up to 9U in second grade, they will only be eligible for one year each at 9U and 10U. In the past, parents of fall birthday children have expressed disappointment at only being eligible for one year of 10U after playing tee ball as a second grader. The decision to move up should be made considering the child’s skill level, but also with the understanding that an additional year of 10U is typically better than multiple years of tee ball for skill development.

League Details

This league uses an 11” Reduced Injury Factor (RIF) ball hit off of a tee. Bases in this league are at a 50’ distance. There is a continuous batting order and girls play multiple innings in the field every game. Players typically rotate through many positions over the course of the season, factoring in safety and skill level, to expose them to the roles of different fielding positions.

About 220 girls formed 18 teams in Girls T-Ball for the 2017 season. There is a 16 game regular season starting in April and extending in to June. Games are scheduled on weeknights (6pm) and during the day on Saturdays. They are typically played at Whittier Elementary School and Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School fields. Additional/alternate times and fields may be added as space, time and weather permit.

While T-Ball is primarily an instructional league and the focus is on development of fundamentals, there are many competitive elements. There is a full playoff schedule every team qualifies for, a best-of-three Village Championship Series, and an All-Star Game.
